Good morning! It's April post day and time for a new link-up party at Patches of Pink! The theme this month is anything baby related. Since I went to a baby shower for a friend last weekend, I thought I would share the gift I made with a friend for the mom-to-be! In case you haven't seen one before, it is a diaper cake! She does not know whether the baby is a boy or girl (LOVE that I'm not the only one who liked surprises!) - so instead of going with the traditional yellow or green colors, we decided to go with Turquoise and Orange! I'm SOOOO happy with how it turned out!
We used a cardboard cake circle for the base, with some tulle tucked around it. The two layers are just diapers wound in a circle. You almost have to have two people to do this part! They are tied and held together with ribbon. I have found that this type is nicer than the ones with the diapers each wound tightly into a ball, because the diapers are more readily usable. Not as hard to get to lay flat afterwards!
The horses, banners, and letters were all cut with my Silhouette Cameo. The cut file for the horses can be found HERE (I just welded the horse and post together, and ignored the other pieces), the file for the banners can be found HERE (although I welded two mirror images together so they folded in half over the twine, and then added a shadow cut as well), and the font I used was Arial (again...making my own shadow behind it).
We tucked the horses in to the bottom layer, then used a little Baker's Twine to tie the top to the ribbon on the upper layer, which made a really easy way to attach it to the cake.
For the banner, we used a couple of bamboo skewers, tucked them through the layers, then tied Baker's twine across in two rows. The banners were then attached over the top, by taping and gluing them together.
I'm so glad you stopped by today! Make sure and head over to Patches of Pink to see what the rest of the design team made, and to link up your own creation! Can't wait to see what you make!
OH Heather this is GORGEOUS!! I LOVE the color combo! I also thing the horses look AWESOME! I bet the expectant mommy was THRILLED when she seen this!! Great job and TFS!! Hugs, Leanne
