Good morning! I'm excited this morning to be joining in with a FABULOUS group of talented designers featuring a SUPER SPECIAL Limited Edition Holiday Card Kit from Simon Says Stamp - Comfort & Joy! I'm sure this kit will sell out quickly, but many of the items in the kit are available separately - I linked to lots of them at the bottom of my post to make it easier for you to find them!
I love the vintage feeling in this kit, and while I tend to gravitate toward more bright and white, I tried to embrace it with my cards today - and ended up with a total of FOUR cards - and I barely scratched the surface of all supplies and possibilities in this kit!
Here is a look at the entire kit contents - you can find it HERE:
And now...the picture heavy part of this post! I have a closer look and detail on each of my cards I'm sharing today! First up - possibly my favorite, featuring the beautiful HUGE stamp set, Comfort and Joy!
I did a bit of careful masking and stamping on this card - I was kind of tired from packing, and did this somewhat last minute before leaving for vacation, so it probably took me a few more tries than it should have to get my brain wrapped around it, but I did it! I finally figured it out though - I stamped the ornament first, then lined up the sentiment over the top. I masked off the bottom of the sentiment, and the "o", inked up my stamp, removed the masks, and stamped. My MISTI was a HUGE help for this! I then added the additional small sentiments and heart from the stamp set, and colored the ornament in a fun vintage color scheme.
I was planning on leaving it super clean and simple, but it felt like it needed a bit something more, so I stamped several of the snowflake images around the outer edges with Antique Linen Distress Ink, then also applied a bit of distress ink around the edges to blend it in softer. I added a few splatters with my Starry Colors Palette, and then applied a nice thick coat of Glossy Accents over the ornament for some extra shine! So fun in real life - this photo shows it best:
My next card focuses on my favorite piece of the pattern paper in the kit - and a fairly simple design that would be super easy to reproduce with any of the pattern paper in the kit!
I trimmed some white cardstock slightly smaller than my cardbase, and then trimmed the pattern paper to fit, leaving some white space along the bottom. I stamped one of the beautiful sentiments from the stamp set underneath, and tied a bit of the ribbon in the kit around that panel.
Once again I was going to stay clean and simple, but it felt like it needed something more - so I added a few gold splatters using my Starry Colors Palette again, and then added a super thin mat of gold glitter cardstock around that panel. So elegant and classy, don't you think?
Here is a better look at the sparkle from that gold splatter:
The next two cards focus on the beautiful tidbits in the Tim Holtz Idea-ology Christmas Ephemera Pack in the kit - there are SOOO many beautiful pieces in this! I wanted to use them all!
That tree image was particularly detailed, huge, and beautiful, so I knew I wanted to use it as a focal point on my card. I nestled it on a white oval cut with Stitched Ovals Dies, and added a sentiment from the stamp set in the kit.
I used some of the pattern paper for my background - LOVE how well they coordinate! I finished off by adding some sparkly ornaments to the tree using all of the pretty Stickles included in the kit! There is also foam between each layer for dimension.
And finally - this one layered on LOTS of those fun elements, stamped on a background stamped with the new Poinsettia Background 6x6 Stamp Set in the kit!
I stamped and heat embossed it on the Ivory cardstock with the Antique Gold Embossing Powder, and then added some distress inking around the outside edge to make it look nice and vintage and old.
I pulled out more of those fun bits and bobbles, layered them all up on the card front, then added a sentiment from the stamp set, heat embossed on a strip of kraft cardstock and matted with a bit of red.
And here is a quick recap of all of them again! What are your favorite kinds of Christmas cards to make? Vintage or something different?
Here is the entire blog hop line-up so you don't get lost along the way:

ReplyDeleteGorgeous cards with the products of this stunning Holiday Kit. Love how you gave the clean and simple cards just a little more interes, great tips! I used to make a lot of Christmas cards but nowadays I send only handmade cards to those who appreciate a handmade card. So I make each card aspecially for a person or family I wanted to send to. I know there are friends/family who love modern and I know some love the vintage. So I make both and everything inbetween, not to modern and not to vintage. Thanks for showing your gorgeous cards and have a nice weekend.
