Watercolor Owl

Good morning! I'm dropping  by this morning with a card that I thought was a total, complete, and utter flop - and now it is one of my all time favorites I think!

I was painting up this owl, and didn't like the color I'd used to outline him - the very outside color, kind of a burgundy red. So...I tried to go over it with some blue which just started muddling together to a purple color as it mixed with the red. SO...unable to leave well enough alone, I added some orange over the top hoping to go back more to the red, because that suddenly sounded better. By then, I kid you not - it looked like mud to me! Maybe some splatters, I thought - so added blue and green splatters, some of which landed in the outline around the owl. I ALMOST threw it away, but decided I might as well let it dry so it didn't get my trash can dirty. I walked away to do some other stuff, and came back to this...my jaw dropped open because I couldn't have even planned for it to look this way!

Layered some fun pattern papers, a doily, and jute twine to build on the textured feel of the watercolor. Moral of the story? Don't give up to quickly!!! :)

  3. Fabulous card! May I ask what is the card size? The base layer...if the pinked die cut is 3.25" X 4.5" (per the die info). Many thanks
