Good morning! I'm excited this morning to be part of an amazing blog hop celebrating the new Believe in the Season release from Simon Says Stamp - full to the brim of amazing new and fun products to cover all of your Christmas cardmaking! I put together a couple of the new stamp sets to make a trio of one layer Christmas cards.
I'm ALWAYS looking for great ways to make a flat card that is easy to mail - and yet isn't boring, and the technique I used on these cards is one that I have used many times lately - I call it Dual Layer embossing. (I did a tutorial during STAMPtember for Winnie and Walter on the Simon Says Blog that gives some more photos and details if you are interested - you can check it out HERE)
I'm ALWAYS looking for great ways to make a flat card that is easy to mail - and yet isn't boring, and the technique I used on these cards is one that I have used many times lately - I call it Dual Layer embossing. (I did a tutorial during STAMPtember for Winnie and Walter on the Simon Says Blog that gives some more photos and details if you are interested - you can check it out HERE)
The basic idea though, is that I first stamped my background using the new Circle Doodle Background stamp in clear EMBOSSING ink, then stamp the deer and sentiment from Magical Christmas in Onyx black VERSAFINE pigment ink - and finally, sprinkle clear embossing powder over the entire thing, and heat emboss all at once. My favorite cardstock for this is the Simon Says Stamp 120 lb cardstock - it is so nice and smooth and heavy! It doesn't warp from heating for the embossing, and the distress inks blend over it like BUTTER!
I have both an Original and Mini Misti, so I made use of both of them for these cards to make it easy to reproduce a few of each one. Once I set the heat on them, I picked some distress ink colors to blend over, going from the center and outward. I then flicked on some water, let that dry, then added some gold splatters with some Heidi Swapp Color Shine in Gold. Once everything dried, I die cut them with a Stitched Rectangle die, added a small mat of coordinating SSS Cardstock, and mounted on a Neenah Desert Storm cardbase. Here is a closer look at each color:
Here they are all lined up together:
I also have two other cards posted using the new release if you're looking for even more inspiration:
